Week #14 - 3 MONTHS
Hi!! So I am really sorry if I say the same things in all of
my emails! Every week is pretty similar and I forget what I have already
shared.
Basically the main thing that is happening here is that it
is getting hot! VERY HOT! It is weird to me that at home it is getting colder
and here I am dying and feel like I am in an oven! My companion likes to tell
me I look burned. Last Saturday she told me when she first met me I was really
white and now I am just a little less white and more red. HMMM THANKS!! It is
my favorite when I am reminded I am very white and very different than everyone
here in Peru. Maybe in 15 more months I will come back looking Latina!
This week I officially hit my 3 month mark on my mission!!!
So the time is passing. Not quickly but its passing! I am doing it!!
Since I got called as an English Specialist, my companion has
had more motivation to learn English... not complaining. BUT.... She is
learning weird things. hahah. Her favorite phrase is “My companion wants a
husband today”. I just keep telling her I am on a mission so I can’t and I
still have 15 months. She just tells me that’s not important and she will help
me. haha. Her other favorite phrase is “My companion is perfect.” I like that
one a lot more even though I am far from being perfect. hahah
In our ward we have been trying to think of new ways to work
with the members as well as meeting new people. We planned an English class and
game night. This week was our first class and game night, and it was fun! We didn’t
have a ton of people come, but we are hoping as we continue it will get bigger.
Also this Sunday I had the opportunity to play the piano
during sacrament meeting. The pianist wasn’t there so they were about to sing
without music. I just ran up there and played. I don’t speak Spanish, but I can
play the piano so I might as well use my talents. I am grateful for the opportunities
I have to play here in the mission.
This week in my studies and in teaching I have again been
reminded of the love of my Heavenly Father. I know I have said it before, but it
is so important to me and something I am grateful for. When I was in the CCM my
friends and I joked that the only phrase we knew in Spanish was DIOS NOS AMA .
God loves us. But that is what it’s all about. It’s why we have this gospel and
the plan and an opportunity to live with God and our families forever. This
mission already has shown me how much God really does love us. His love is
eternal and he loves us fiercely. He loves the people I am teaching. He loves
the members. He loves the people who want nothing to do with the church right
now. He loves me. When I am struggling he shows that love. He helps me get out of
the bed in the morning and helps me study the scriptures and helps me feel the
spirit and helps me open my mouth and share my testimony in a lesson or on the
street.
God loves us and I am very, very grateful.
I love this gospel and I know it is true!
Love, Hermana Jacey Petersen
