Week 17 - Happy December

Hello friends and family!! Happy DECEMBER!

So as I thought about this week I almost decided not to write a group email, but here I am. Nothing really happened and honestly I felt pretty down a lot of the week.

With December starting Christmas is obviously pretty important. People are decorating and in lessons people ask about what Christmas is like in the US, or what my favorite part about the Christmas season is, and then I feel sad.... My most favorite thing about Christmas is that I get to spend time with my family. I want more than anything to be with them this Christmas. I want to be shoveling snow and not sweeping sand. I want to go Christmas shopping for presents for the people I love. I want to be wearing sweaters and watching silly Hallmark movies and going to Maverick to get hot chocolate with my friends. But I am here in Peru and I do know this is where I am supposed to be even though it is very, very hard. I am reminded every day that Christmas is not about the presents or the lights in Layton Park and temple square or the snow. It is about Christ.

My brother wrote me a cute note that said if we look closely at the word CHRISTMAS we can find Christ. I am so grateful for Christ. I am grateful He came to this earth and established a church and worked miracles and suffered and died for us. I am grateful for a Heavenly Father who allowed his son to be born into this imperfect world where people would be not so kind and not so accepting to the message and light He had to share.

Also talking about light.... the Light the World thing the church has put out has started or here... ILLUMINA EL MUNDO. What an awesome opportunity the church has come up with to help us focus on the true meaning of Christmas and focus on others and serving those around us.

I am so grateful for Christ who I know lives and loves me and as much as I have cried in the streets or felt like jumping on a plane and going home this week, I am grateful to be sharing the gospel and I am grateful for all of my many blessings.

Love Hermana Jacey Petersen

Here are some pictures that aren’t from this week that I may or may not have already sent!!
