Week 21 - Happy New Year

heyyyy!! So it is the last Pday of the year! Actually the last day! WOW. Well for all of 2019 I will be here in Peru the entire year. hahah. But yeah esta bien!

The biggest thing this week obviously was Christmas. We woke up on Christmas morning and there was RAIN!! It was crazy. There is no rain in Ica. It is hot, hot and hot. That’s all! It was a little different than a white Christmas like I am used to but it was a little blessing to me. I have shared before that rain is my favorite. It reminds me of my beautiful angel Sofie. Someone recently asked me what Sofie was like, and I had nothing but good things to say. She is kind and loving and always looking to serve and the kind of person I wish I was. Sofie is the reason I am here on my mission. She is the reason that I have a testimony of the Plan of Salvation like I do. I am grateful for that rain Christmas morning to remind me why I am here on a day I wanted nothing more than to be home in Layton Utah with my family!

But yeah. I got to talk to my wonderful family and I loved it. I didn’t even cry that much. Only a little bit. haha. All my friends thought I would just bawl the entire time. SO GO ME!!! hahah. We also had tacos with our zone and watched Incredibles 2. Hahaha. My zone leader also asked me and 3 others missionaries to sing, but we didn’t have time so I think that was a nice Christmas present for me.... not having to sing. haha.

Other than that, nothing big happened this week. Just trying to find some more people to invite to Christ. haha. I have been trying to reflect a little bit about this past year. One year ago I would have never thought this is where I would be today. A year ago I had no desire to serve a mission, but my Heavenly Father had a different plan for me obviously, and so here I am. I am trying to be more willing to do what Heavenly Father wants and not what I want because I know He can see the bigger picture - I am grateful for the things I have learned this past year and the people I have met specifically those people I would have never met if I had not chosen to serve this mission.

Here are 3 People that I want to share about that have changed my life bc of this mission... Each of you have taught me so much and shown me so much support and I wish I had time to write about every single person. But here are just 3.

Cheri Tyler, I met Cheri Tyler at the mall right before I left on my mission. I was in Provo going boating with my friends Camdyn and Denver. Cam and I had decided to go to the mall, and we got there before it opened. I made a joke about how we could get to the mall before it opened, but couldn’t always make it to church on time. It was then that I met Cheri and she began to talk to us. My mission came up, and she shared her testimony about missionary work and even asked to be added to my email list. She also has continued to be very supportive of me though the CCM and even now. So thank you Cheri for being very kind to a missionary who was very nervous to leave her family and also a missionary who is struggling a little bit in Peru.

The second person is not on my email list but yeah. I was working at Durk’s Plumbing the summer before my mission. I had many conversations with people which basically led to me telling them I was just working there for the summer before my mission. One day a man came in and asked if I was the girl going to Peru. I said yes, and he gave me an envelope and left. In the envelope was a very generous gift and a note that explained that he was a convert and wished me luck. I am grateful for that man and that note because he showed me that missionaries really do make a difference. That maybe I really can help someone.

The third I know I have told you about. Remington Jacobs. I am very grateful for Remi who changed my life in 5 weeks, and who is helping me here in Peru while she is serving in Chile. My mom once called her my gift from God and it is true. I needed her day 1 in my mission, and I know she is still helping me today. Thank you Rem!!

Looking back on this past year I am grateful for the people. I know Heavenly Father knows and loves me because of the people he has placed in my life.

I love this gospel I really do.

Love Hermana Jacey Petersen
